Our History and Heritage
Notre Dame High School of Acadia Parish began its journey as a Catholic, co-educational institution for students in grades 9 through 12 in September 1967. The school was formed through the consolidation of three Catholic high schools in the area: St. Michael of Crowley, St. Joseph of Rayne, and St. Francis of Iota. It was initially decided that the facilities of St. Michael would be used until a permanent location for Notre Dame could be established. On January 31, 1977, the Notre Dame School Board of Directors and seven supporting church parishes came together to purchase proportionate shares of the school from St. Michael Parish, securing Notre Dame's permanent home at its current site.
In the spring leading up to the consolidation, committees consisting of faculty and students from all three schools collaborated to shape the identity of the new school. They selected the school’s uniforms, colors, mascot, and emblem, and drafted a shared philosophy to guide Notre Dame into the future. The school’s curriculum and faculty began to form from that foundation of unity and vision.
